»Yoga Nidra is much more than a deep relaxation; it is a total experience that touches and awakens all parts of your being.« (Swami Janakananda)
Practicing Yoga Nidra is not only deeply relaxing, but reforming the whole personality from within. It is also an easy way to experience a state of meditation.
Yoga Nidra was mentioned in old tantric texts and rediscovered by Swami Satyananda Saraswati. He translates Yoga Nidra as psychic sleep and describe it as a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation, while maintaining awareness at the deeper levels.
It is easy to practice Yoga Nidra. You do not need any experience of Yoga to benefit from this practice. All you are asked to do is to simply lie down with eyes closed and follow the instructions. In each session, you also repeat a »sankalpa«, or »resolve«. This is a short positive statement that gets embedded deep in the subconscious and is bound to bear fruit in time.
Yoga Nidra has proven to be very therapeutic, particularly in stress related conditions. It can help people with sleeping disorders, nervous conditions and in overcoming limiting behavioural patterns.
