In the period 1954 - 1990  Bohinj  Lake ice wass forzen on average for 61 days per year.
On shore of Bohinj lake is not buildings.

Savica Waterfall

The Savica Waterfall  is not the biggest in Slovenia,
but it is important in Slovenian culture because of
the poem "Baptism by Savica"  by the famous slovenian poet France Prešeren.

Mostnica Gorge

The Gorge is 2 km long, about 20 m deep and in some sections perhaps only
a metre widens. In this beautiful gorge with rapids, small waterfalls and chutes,
you can find interesting erosive forms like "erosive pots" or underwater windows.
There's a famous underwater window with the name "Elephant calf".

Mostnica runs from the valley of Voje  into the Sava Bohinjka.
At the end end of the valley of Voje is  Mostnica waterfall.

Karst spring of river Bistrica, which flow through Bohinjska Bistrica and it fall
into Sava Bohinjka. The river is not long, but all the same it supply from 60 km2

or  with the "car-train" to Tolmin and then

Region of town Nova Gorica ( "Slovenian Las Vegas" )
is region of good wines, but battlefield of WWI too.

Car-train: This train for transport vehicles drives (again) since 1999
between Most na Soci / Podbrdo and Bohinjska Bistrica.

Tunnel of Bohinj ( 6327,4 m)

Railway tunnel of Bohinj is the longest tunnel
in Slovenia. This tunnel connects country Gorenjska
with country Primorska. The Tunnel was broken 20. 5. 1904
After 1906 through the tunnel drove trains from Vienna to Trieste too. (till 1914)

Primary southern portal German army exploded 6. 5. 1945,
present portal disfigures a door against draught, which now are not more in use.

The tunnel was made as double-track, but owing to
problems with water in the tunnel is one track.
In the tunnel are 2 bigger springs and when rains are abundant
water overflow the tunnel and stops railway traffic

Ljubljana ---> Postojna -->Skocjan ---> Lipica --> the coast

The slovenian coast: Saltpan of "Secovlje" , Piran , Portorož , ...

On saltpan by Piran  you can see acquisition of salt as 700 years ago.

As a matter of fact all west Slovenia quick (with) the car can be reachable from
Bohinj. Slovenia is not so big. ( 2 hours to Postojna. ) and
Bohinj can be good base for more days / weeks too.

Bohinj is close proximity to Bled with a beautiful walk around the lake -
a chance to take a boat trip to the church on the island
in the lake - to ring the church bell ! Bled Lake is smaller like Bohinj Lake ,
but on Lake Bled you can see swans, which on Lake Bohinj you can not see.

On the Lake Bled frequently you can see skiffs, because in Bled
is rowing centre. Members of the rowing club Bled train on
lake Bled but on this lake are rowing-matchs too.
Rowers of Bled was for Olympic Games in Beijin.

Bled is different like Bohinj, but in Bled you can go on castle ,
sweeten with "Kremšnita-s" , observe swans . From Bled you can go
to gorge "Vintgar" ,  or the valey of river Radovna ( waterfall Periènik )
Above Bohinjska Bela by Bled is a cave too, but visits are not every
day and first you must go on hill with name "Oldwomanish tooth"

Dimension of lake =  2,1 x 1,1 km , length of seaside = 6 km
surface =  1, 43 km2 , volume = 31 Mm3 ,  largest depth = 30 m ,

the lace of Idria , products of glass from factory Rogaska , small model of corn-rack

New'Year's / ski-holidays in BOHINJ:

In Bohinj you can ski on KOBLA , VOGEL , Senožeta , or Soriška planina too.
For the snowboarding VOGEL is suitable. For the skating
will be some skating rinks, and ice was in February 2009 on Lake Bohinj too.
Possible is cross-country skiing in valleys of Bohinj.

You can try even (night)  sledding or climbing on iced waterfalls.
And you can choose winter trekking (to Komna on Vogar , ... ) or
make only walk by lake or along river Sava Bohinjka.

From Bohinj you can make trip to BLED or  to
New'Year's adorned LJUBLJANA , you can see
alive Christmas crib in the POSTOJNA caves.

Ski resorts on KRVAVEC or in KRANJSKA GORA
are not so far from Bohinj too.

Vogel ski centre is above Lake Bohinj and inside Triglav National Park
that is why snow cannons for artificial snow there are not installed / permitted.
But, nevertheless on Vogel can be plenty of snow in March or April too.

First with a cable railway (cable car) 1540 m height above sea leve then
chairlifts and draglifts till mountain "Šija" (1880 m). But oneself mountain
Vogel ( 1922 m ) is west of Šija and actually not on region of ski centre Vogel.

Kobla ski centre is above Bohinjska Bistrica and
the longest chair lift Kobla-3 has 45o m difference in height.
With double chair lifts Kobla-1, Kobla-2 and Kobla-3 you can go
on summit 1480 m height above sea level.
From Kobla 3 you can ski on "Steep" in northern slope or on
"Family" in southern slope.  KOBLA - difference in height = 1 km.

The mountain Kobla is 1498 m height and through this mountain crest
goes the longest railway tunnel in Slovenia ( 6327,4 m) -
Kobla is is accessible by train too and night skiing is available
on the trail "Kozji Hrbet" ( Goat's Back )

Precedent winter 2007 / 2008

Ski resort Vogel began work 8. 1. 2008 , because before was not enough ( natural ) snow ,
on the contrary on KOBLA skiing was possible already in Christmas-tide on artificial snow.
(chair lift "Kozji hrbet") , In winter 07 / 08 worked Kobla 2 and 3 too and
in February 2008 was good days for skiing on Kobla.

Slovenia, in the centre of Europa in first half  year 2008 was also "the centre of EU" too.
It took over the EU presidency from Portugal and in June 2008 was succeeded by France.

The majority of events were held in  "Brdo" by the airport, and some in Bled.
More than 20,000 visitors wer present for the events.
